• On 3 Apr 1881 John appeared on the census at 20 East Side of Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 18-year-old who was crippled. 2
• On 5 Apr 1891 he appeared on the census at 34 Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 30-year-old who had been crippled from childhood. 5
