His father, George Stead, was also a farmer. 1 • On 30 Mar 1851 George appeared on the census at Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 30-year-old farm labourer. 6 • On 7 Apr 1861 he appeared on the census at the East Side of Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 39-year-old labourer. 7 • On 2 Apr 1871 George appeared on the census at Stead's Yard No 1, Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 49-year-old labourer. 8 • On 3 Apr 1881 he appeared on the census at 20 East Side of Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 59-year-old farm labourer. 4 • On 11 Mar 1883 his son Henry's marriage certificate said he was a gardener. 9 • On 5 Apr 1891 George appeared on the census at 34 Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 70-year-old widower and jobbing gardener. 10 • On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at 34 Crookes, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 80-year-old widower and retired gardener. 5 • His death was registered during the quarter ended Sep 1907 at the Ecclesall Bierlow registration district, with GRO reference Vol 9c, Page 192. 11 ![]() George married Ann CADMAN, daughter of Alfred CADMAN and Mary HOPE, on 19 Dec 1849 in St. Peter's Cathedral, Sheffield, Yorks.1 2 (Ann CADMAN was born in 1824 in Sheffield, Yorks 4 12 and died on 17 Mar 1890 at 24, Lydgate Lane, Crookes, Yorks 2.)
