His father, Edwin, was deceased, but had been a builder. 1 • On 3 Apr 1881 Samuel appeared on the census at 24 Wyvil Road, Lambeth, Surrey as a 20-year-old commercial clerk in the tea trade. 6 • On 5 Apr 1891 he appeared on the census at 5, Hewlett Terrace, Pulross Road, Lambeth, Surrey as a 30-year-old commercial traveller. 7 • On 31 Mar 1901 Samuel appeared on the census at 6 Defoe Road (now Garratt Lane), Tooting Graveney, Surrey as a 40-year-old commercial traveller. 8 • On 2 Apr 1911 he appeared on the census at 8 Rupert Terrace, London Road, Mitcham, Surrey as a 50-year-old commercial traveller, grocery trade. 9 • His death was registered during the quarter ended Dec 1914 at the Croydon registration district, with GRO reference vol 2a, page 376. 5 • On 10 Jun 1916 his estate was probated at the London registry with administration to his widow, Mary Ann. Effects £28.
