On 20 Aug 1889 his marriage certificate said that he was a 28-year-old widower who worked as a grinder and that he lived at 31 Cundy Street, Nether Hallam, Yorks. His father, Joseph Drabble, was a forger. 2
On 5 Apr 1891 Joseph appeared on the census at 40 Hadfield Street, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 30-year-old table blade grinder. 11
On 23 Dec 1894 his daughter Mabel's birth certificate said he was a table blade grinder. 7
On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at 370 South Road, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 40-year-old table blade grinder. 12
On 2 Apr 1911 Joseph appeared on the census at 370 South Road, Nether Hallam, Yorks as a 50-year-old table blade grinder with a cutlery manufacturer. 13
On 3 Oct 1914 his daughter Mabel's marriage certificate said he was a table knife grinder. 14
Joseph married Florence HANCOCK in 1882.1 (Florence HANCOCK was born in 1862 15 and died in 1884 16.)

Joseph next married Harriet BAMFORTH, daughter of John BAMFORTH and Maria MACHAN, on 20 Aug 1889 in St. Bartholemew's Church, Sheffield, Yorks.2 3 (Harriet BAMFORTH was born on 23 Feb 1865 at Addey Street, Nether Hallam, Yorks 12 17 18 19 20 and died in 1934.)
