• On 31 Mar 1901 John appeared on the census at the Eversfield Hotel, Hastings, Sussex as a 61-year-old barrister and judge of the county courts. ⁴

John married Mary Grayson SIMPSON on 24 Apr 1866.^{1 2} (Mary Grayson SIMPSON was born about 1841 in Walton, Yorks ³.)
