• On 5 Apr 1891 Joseph appeared on the census at 2 Arc Villas, Queen Street, Chelmsford, Essex as a 38-year-old china and glass dealer. 6
• On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at Cottage Place, Chelmsford, Essex as a 48-year-old china dealer and shop keeper working on his own account. 7
