• On 5 Apr 1891 James appeared on the census at 32 South Road, Newhaven, Sussex as a 32-year-old mariner whose age appears incorrect. It should be 37, but the image is clearly 32. 4
• On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at 32 South Road, Newhaven, Sussex as a 47-year-old mariner. 5
• On 2 Apr 1911 James appeared on the census at 32 South Road, Newhaven, Sussex as a 57-year-old stevedore. 6
• His death was registered during the quarter ended Sep 1922 at the Newhaven registration district, with GRO reference vol 2b, page 194. 3
James married Maria Frances NICHOLLS, daughter of Thomas William NICHOLLS and Ellen BANKS, in 1878.1 (Maria Frances NICHOLLS was born about 1858 in Newhaven, Sussex 7 and died in 1912 8.)
