• On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at Dodsons Corner, Ringmer, Sussex as an eighty-five-year-old where he was shown as living on private income. He was a lodger in the home of William Durrant. Ellen Durrant had been his housekeeper in the Cock Inn for the past two censuses. 8
