His father, John Rolph, was shown as a labourer. 1 • On 2 Apr 1871 George appeared on the census in South Hanningfield, Essex as a 25-year-old blacksmith. 5 • On 3 Apr 1881 he appeared on the census at 25 George Street, Grays, Essex as a 35-year-old engine smith (at cement factory). 6 • On 5 Apr 1891 George appeared on the census at 40 Bedford Road, Grays, Essex as a 45-year-old blacksmith. 7 • On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at 50 Stanley Road, Grays, Essex as a 55-year-old widower and blacksmith. 8 • On 2 Apr 1911 George appeared on the census at 96 First Avenue, Plaistow, Essex as a 65-year-old widower who worked as a blacksmith and was living with his daughter Ada and her family. 9 George married Ruth PALMER, daughter of Joseph PALMER and Unknown, on 16 Oct 1868 in St. Mary's Church, Ingatestone, Essex.1 (Ruth PALMER was born in 1849 in Woodham Walter, Essex 5 6 7 and died about 1901 10.)
