Christening Notes: His godparents were John Connor and Isabella Mclarnan Events • On 19 Oct 1856 his marriage certificate said that he was a 24-year-old batchelor who worked as a hand loom weaver. and that he lived at Vauxhall Road, Wigan, Lancs. His father, Patrick Carey, deceased, had also been a hand loom weaver. 1 • On 7 Apr 1861 William appeared on the census at 25 Ashley Lane, Manchester, Lancs as a 28-year-old cotton weaver. 7 • On 21 Feb 1863 his son Andrew's birth certificate said he was a gas labourer. 3 • On 2 Apr 1871 he appeared on the census at 37 Lower Tebbut Street, Manchester, Lancs as a 38-year-old labourer in a gas works. 8 • On 3 Apr 1881 William appeared on the census at 10 Twemlow Street, Manchester, Lancs as a 48-year-old general labourer. 9 • On 16 May 1883 the marriage certificate between Andrew Carey and Catherine Grantham said he was a brick maker. 10 • His death was registered during the quarter ended Mar 1891 at the Manchester registration district, with GRO reference vol 8d, page 253. 6 William married Ellen McDONALD, daughter of Archibald McDONALD and Unknown, on 19 Oct 1856 in St. Patricks Church, Wigan, Lancs.1 2 (Ellen McDONALD was born about 1838 in Co Longford, Ireland 4 8 and died about 1887 11.)
