Events • On 30 Mar 1851 William appeared on the census in Isfield, Sussex as an infant aged 2 months. 2 • On 7 Apr 1861 he appeared on the census at Isfield Road, Isfield, Sussex as a 10-year-old scholar. 4 • On 2 Apr 1871 William appeared on the census at Isfield Street, Isfield, Sussex as a 20-year-old agricultural labourer. 5 • On 3 Apr 1881 he appeared on the census at 7 St. Mary's Terrace, Lewes as a 30-year-old grocer's porter. 6 • On 5 Apr 1891 William appeared on the census at The Street, Isfield, Sussex as a 40-year-old general labourer who had moved back to Isfield with his family and is now living a few doors up from his widowed mother. 7 • On 31 Mar 1901 he appeared on the census at Swingate Cottage, Ringmer, Sussex as a 50-year-old agricultural labourer. 8 • On 2 Apr 1911 William appeared on the census at Swingate Cottage, Ringmer, Sussex as a 61-year-old estate carpenter. 9 • His death was registered during the quarter ended Mar 1930 at the Portsmouth registration district, with GRO reference vol 2b, page 722. 10 • On 13 Mar 1930 his estate was probated at the Winchester registry to his son Frederick Stevens, carpenter. Effects £740 14s 7d. At the time of his death he was living at 39 Jessie Road, Southsea, Hants. 3 William married Rose STANDEN in 1880.1 (Rose STANDEN was born about 1852 in Isfield, Sussex 6 and died in 1928 11.)
